What we keep, and why

Last updated 24 September 2026

In short: we keep what you put into a wish so the person you send it to can watch it. We don’t sell it, we don’t show ads, and the page they open has no trackers. You can delete a wish, and everything in it, at any time.

When you make a wish

  • The names you type, your words, the relationship and the language you pick.
  • Your photos. Your phone resizes them before they upload, which also removes the location and camera details stored inside them.
  • Your voice note, if you record one, and the captions you type for it.
  • When it should open, and the time zone you chose for that.

You don’t need an account. Your phone keeps a random private key that tells us which wishes are yours. We store only a scrambled copy of that key, and we never ask for your phone number or email to make a wish. If you clear your browser’s data, we can’t tell the wishes are yours any more, so delete any you want gone first.

When someone opens your wish

We record four things, so we can tell you in My wishes:

  • when they first open it (counted only when they tap the seal, so link previews never count),
  • how many times it has been opened,
  • whether they reached the end of the letter, and
  • the replies they choose to send you, typed or in their voice.

We don’t record their device, their location or how long they looked at each photo. The wish page loads nothing from any other company: no analytics, no ads, no fonts or scripts from elsewhere.

Where it’s kept

Everything is stored on our own servers in Germany, in a database and file store we run ourselves. Photos and voice notes are never at a public address: they reach a phone only through the wish link, after we check the wish still exists and is allowed to open. Cloudflare carries traffic to our site and protects it from attacks, which means it handles requests on the way through; it doesn’t keep your photos.

Like every website, our servers keep short technical logs (such as IP addresses) to keep the service working and safe.

How long we keep it

  • A wish stays until you delete it. We keep every wish working for at least a year after it’s first opened.
  • Photos and voice notes you upload but never send are deleted within a day.
  • When you delete a wish in My wishes, its photos, voice note, words and replies are deleted straight away.

Reports

Anyone who receives a wish can report it from the contact page, with its link. A person reviews every report within 24 hours and takes the wish down if it breaks our terms. If you think your wish was taken down by mistake, write to us from the same page.

Age

You must be 18 or older to make a wish. Wishes can be sent to anyone.

Your choices and rights

You can see and delete your wishes in My wishes. For anything else about your data, including a complaint, use the contact page, and we’ll reply within 7 days. Under India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act you may ask us what we hold about you, ask us to correct or erase it, and complain about how we handle it.

Changes

If we change how we handle data, we’ll update this page and the date at the top before the change takes effect.
